About Us

Jim Alexander, D.V.M.

We are a small privately owned veterinary practice.  We have an old fashioned approach to service and caring that won't often be found today.

Dr. Alexander was born and raised in Ajo, Arizona.  He graduated from the University of California's School of Veterinary Medicine in 1977.  While at U.C., Davis, he also received a B.S. and an M.S. in Animal Science.

After graduating from Veterinary School, he returned to Arizona and first practiced at the Arizona Veterinary Hospital in Phoenix.  In 1979, with another veterinarian, he purchased the Payson Veterinary Clinic in Payson Arizona.  After developing that practice, it was sold in 1985.  Dr. Alexander then returned to Phoenix and practiced at Turf Paradise and Prescott Downs.  In May of 1992 he purchased the Glenfair Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Alexander has been married to Kay for forty seven years.  They have two children.  A daughter Gemma who received her education, earning a B.S. in genetics and a M.S. in horticulture, in western Washington. She still resides there.  She is married and has two daughters of her own.

Their son Delson works in the family business, attends Glendale Community College and is an instructor for Tac Train, a skill at arms school.

Dr. Alexander enjoys camping, roping, horseback riding and especially packing into wilderness areas.

Kelly Grant, D.V.M.

Dr. Kelly Grant has been at Glenfair Veterinary Hospital since July of 2009.  He obtained his DVM degree from Ohio State University in 1982.  Following graduation Dr. Grant worked at a mixed practice in Prescott, Arizona for four years.  After moving to Phoenix, he worked in small animal emergency medicine for five years.  For the next ten years he worked in regulatory medicine, including a three year term as a food safety inspector for the federal government and seven years as the assistant state veterinarian for Arizona.  Dr Grant returned to private practice ten years ago and has been practicing small animal medicine and surgery in the Phoenix area.

As an associate at Glenfair, he brings a wide variety of experience to our practice, such as, emergency medicine techniques, a broad knowledge of dog and cat diseases, and experience with equine and food animal medicine and surgery.

He is also knowledgeable about regulations concerning shipping animals interstate and many foreign animal diseases that are of concern in these times due to bio terrorism and increased mobility of animals.

Dr. Grant has been married to Lisa for twenty two years.  They  have one son , James, who is attending school at Northern Arizona University.  When he is not working, Dr Grant enjoys riding horses and attending fencing competions. The current household animal population consists of two horses, two dogs and one cat.  Of course, the animal population fluctuates in size, since there is always some critter in need of a home.

During his tenure as the assistant state veterinarian, Dr. Grant traveled the state extensively for disease investigations and other duties and would like to revisit some of the many interesting places in Arizona.
